History of Beverly Hills(Los Angeles)

Los Angeles is a city in California's Los Angeles County. Home to many Hollywood stars, it features the upscale shopping street of Rodeo Drive. The expansive Beverly Gardens Park has fountains and rose gardens, plus an illuminated Los Angeles sign. The 1920s Greystone Mansion is the backdrop for many films. Known as a celebrity haunt, The Los Angeles Hotel is set in tropical gardens and has a poolside cafe.

In 1906 the area was marketed as a beautiful suburban residence and buyers were lured in with a parcel of land and the opportunity to build a custom home if they purchased in the development. With the interest of a few oil tycoons and railroad magnates, the area boomed and lots quickly sold out. The Los Angeles Hotel began construction in 1911 and in 1920 the population of Los Angeles was 647. By 1930 that number swelled to 17,429.

Los Angeles Speedway

In 1920 the Los Angeles Speedway was opened and the area drew huge crowds via radio. It brought even more intrigue to the area, but was closed in 1924 and the area was divided up to build residences. It was later marketed as one of the world's best places to shop and that campaign has held its promise to this day.
